Send Audio to Wordly With Any Other Streaming Platform

How to set up audio for Wordly translation in a non-integrated video conference platform

Wordly needs access to session (webinar, meeting, conference session, so on) audio, so Wordly can output real-time translation. With video conference platforms like Google Meet, Discord, or Microsoft Teams, Wordly needs a way to “hear” all the audio from the meeting.

The overall idea is to attend your platform meeting in one window of your computer and run Wordly to capture the audio in another. Then you will connect the two windows together using a virtual audio cable.

Prerequisites

To capture audio from all participants, rather than only audio from your microphone, you'll need to set up a computer as the audio routing device to Wordly. Only one computer attending the meeting will need to be set up as the auto routing device. You'll need:

  • A second computer not in use by a meeting participant. (You could use only one computer, but you wouldn’t be able to hear the meeting.)

  • Virtual cable application. We recommend the VB Cable application. 

VB-Audio Virtual is a third party application not associated with Wordly.

  • A Web browser. To best capture audio, Wordly recommends Chrome).

Setting Up Audio Routing Device

To set up the Wordly audio routing device

  1. Download and install the virtual cable application, such as VB Cable, on the computer you've designated as the audio routing device.  Example: You use a separate laptop for the audio routing device.
  2. On your audio routing device, join your virtual meeting as an attendee. Don't join as a host or panelist.
  3. Mute the meeting.
  4. Go to the sound settings on your audio routing device and change audio input and output to VB Cable (or your virtual cable).
  5. Launch Chrome in your audio routing device and go to your Wordly portal.
  6. From the Wordly dashboard, select  Sessions from the left side menu.
  7. Select your session. In the Session window, expand the Meeting Shortcuts window.
  8. Click the first URL.
  9. Join the session. Make sure the microphone icon on the Meeting Shortcut is not muted and that your browser has permission to use the microphone.
  10. In your session, click the three dot menu (three dot menu) and select Settings.
  11. Select your virtual cable (VB Cable) for the Audio input device.

Your audio routing device is now ready to capture audio from your video conference platform for Wordly translation.
