Display Wordly Captions on Screen

How to project your captions on a screen.

There are two ways to display Wordly captions on a screen:

  • Single language display - Choose this if you want to project captions in a single language with minimal customization.
  • Wordly Display - Choose this if you want to project captions multiple languages on a single display or if you require more customization for your captions.

Single Language Display

This is a simple viewing format, and is ideal if you intend to project AI captions in a single language with minimal customization. The browser output is responsive, so text formatting can be adjusted by zooming in on your browser.

  1. On the device that you want to display the captions, click the Attendee Link. You can find the attendee link under Attendee Shortcuts in your session.

  2. In the Wordly Attend page, choose the language you want Wordly to translate and display the spoken dialogue into.

  3. Click More options at the bottom of the login box to access additional features:

      • Enter Passcode: Skip this if your session is not passcode protected.
      • Name: Optional.
      • Choose a display mode: You have three display options:
        • Normal: White background with white text. This is the default view.
        • Display: Black background with white text.  If you have light accessibility concerns, choose Display mode.
        • High Contrast: Black background with yellow text. If you have strict accessibility concerns, choose High Contrast mode.

Display mode and High Contrast mode currently do not have advanced options. Read the Options section of  Attending a Wordly Session for more information. Learn more about changing Wordly display mode for captions.

Wordly Display

If you intend on projecting multiple languages on a single display or if you require more customization for your captions, you should use the Wordly Display feature.

You can use Wordly Display to overlay on top of video to provide open subtitles for viewing. For more information, read Incorporating Wordly in Video Systems.

To use Wordly Display

  1. Go to Wordly Display.
  2. Enter Session ID. Locate your Session ID by navigating to the desired session in your Wordly portal. The Session ID will be the four letters and four numbers left of the Session Title. The Session ID is also identified in the session details, revealed when clicking on the session. The Session ID is below the Presenter and above the Passcode.
  3. Click the More Option drop-down menu to reveal the following options:
Passcode - To find the Passcode, look below the Session ID in the Session details (accessed by clicking on the desired session in the Sessions menu).
Check this box to show the language names in fullscreen mode. - If you uncheck this box, the language names will not show in full screen mode.
Check this box to show speakers’ names in the transcript. - Displays the speakers’ names in the generated transcript.

Font Size - Choose font size of displayed text.
  7. Click the Additional Settings drop-down menu and select Check this box to show only complete phrases. if if you want to hide intermediate translation results and only show completed sentences. This delays the display of a sentence until the speaker has finished saying it. This can create a more stable experience when the translated language word order is different from the speaker language word order. Click Add Frame.

      You can do the following:

      Screen layout

Select the monitor button wordly-display-screen-layout-button to change the margins of the frame and the border color around and between frames.

      • Frame Margins - You can set the margin size around your window and/or text by typing in the fields. Wordly calculates the margin by multiplying what you enter in the field by 8 pixels. You can't use negative numbers.
Example: You enter 10 in the Top field. The top margin displays 80 lines from the top.

Top/Bottom adds space to the top and bottom. Left/Right adds space to the left and right. Safe Area will add extra space between the text and window. We recommend you use Safe Area for cases when you have more than one frame on the screen.
      • Global Background Color - Choose a custom color to display behind the frame. You may want to make the background the same color as your frame, so that the captions don’t appear clipped. To choose the color, enter the hex code in the field. You can also select the color range from the rainbow gradient and pick the exact color from the gradient square.

      Add a frame

Select the plus button display-add-frame-button to add another language frame. When you press the button, the Frame Settings window opens to select which language you want and format the new frame.
